The College of Law (CoL) has trained up its first qualified solicitor since becoming a registered contractor.
Former nurse Rebecca Parker completed her training contract in the college’s legal advice centre in its Birmingham branch. Her qualification arrives just two years after the college was registered with the Law Society as a training contract provider.
The legal advice centre is run as a solicitor’s practice providing free legal advice to the public with students working under the supervision of qualified tutors. Parker is the pro bono co-ordinator at the Birmingham branch and is now the supervising solicitor for the centre.
Her career change started when she enrolled as a mature student at the University of Derby in 1998 to study law at degree level. After passing with first class honours she went onto Nottingham Law School to complete her LPC.
