Eversheds corporate partner Andrew Davison has been selected to coordinate solicitors' responses to plans to transform the financial services industry.
Davison is the new chairman of the Law Society's Standing Committee in Company Law.
He takes over from Tim Herrington, head of the financial services investment funds unit at Clifford Chance. He stays as head of the financial services sub-committee.
The Standing Committee will oversee the progress of the Financial Services and Markets Bill, expected to go through Parliament this autumn.
Davison says: “My priority and that of my colleagues on the committee is to ensure that the views and experiences of the profession are fed effectively into the consultation process.”
Under his three-year term as chairman, Davison will also contribute to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) review of UK company law. A white paper is expected to be published on the subject in 2001.
Davison adds: “It is important to our clients, as well as ourselves, that the legal and practical implications of the many possible changes under discussion are properly addressed.”
