Arthur Andersen-tied law firm Garrett & Co has hired Rowe & Maw pensions solicitor Duncan Buchanan to set up a pensions practice within its Employment & Benefits Group in London. Buchanan, who qualified in 1990 and will be a “senior manager” rather than a partner, said that the Pensions Act, which is due to come into force in April, would mean companies would have to review their existing pension schemes to comply. He said he would cover the legal aspects of any pension scheme together with pensions specialists and actuaries from Arthur Andersen's human capital services practice, who would be advising clients on the financial impacts of any changes. Julia Chain, Garretts' senior partner, said she expected the pensions practice would “expand considerably over the next few years in order to meet client needs”.
