Pinsent Masons is rolling out a single-cost, budget employment tribunal offering in response to the trend for corporates to commoditise their employment work.
The firm has launched the scheme, known as ‘Introducing Certainty’, to give clients more transparency in the costs for tribunal work.
Partner Jonathan Coley explained that the plan is designed to allow an in-house legal or HR team to take responsibility for some aspects of preparing a tribunal claim, with Pinsents lawyers offering advice and giving an initial risk analysis.
Coley said that, while the scheme was intended for clients with large numbers of tribunal claims, “what it very definitely is not is a ‘pile it high, sell it cheap’ approach”.
Introducing Certainty puts a cap on the cost of a claim, depending on how complicated it might be, with unfair dismissals cheaper than claims that concern reputational issues.
However, the risk analysis aspect of the work costs the same for each claim and is designed to help train companies to avoid future disputes.
The launch of the scheme follows a trend for many general counsel to hire in-house employment lawyers as employment regulation becomes more burdensome.
