The Paris office of Dutch law firm Stibbe Simont Monahan Duhot is losing a corporate partner to US firm Sullivan & Cromwell.
Richard Vilanova is leaving the 30-partner practice to join Sullivan & Cromwell’s small Paris office.
He specialises in asset financing and capital markets and already does the French component of financing projects for a number of US law firms.
“I’m leaving because the new job is a challenge and Stibbe can do without me,” says Vilanova. He adds that he will do more capital markets work at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Managing partner of Stibbe’s Paris office Alain Georges says: “I think it’s unlikely that he’ll take clients with him, because in most cases the work he does is referred from other US firms, and they won’t want to give work to their competitors.”
