Spain’s Garrigues has launched an IP practice in Portugal with the acquisition of Lisbon IP boutique Cabral Cunha Ferreira & Associados.
The firm has eight lawyers, and is headed by Gonçalo da Cunha Ferreira, who joins Garrigues as a partner. The new Portugese outpost will operate under the name ‘Garrigues Cunha Ferreira’.
The move is Garrigues’ second strategic play in Portugal in recent months, having hired the entire tax team from independent firm Castro Silva & Associates in February.
Fernando Castro Silva joined Garrigues Leónidas & Matos, Garrigues’ Portuguese arm, in the Lisbon office as partner and head of the new tax practice. The additions swelled Garrigues Leónidas & Matos to nearly 60 lawyers.
