Addleshaw Goddard has found itself the subject of a sexual discrimination claim brought by a construction litigator who claims she was treated unfairly after returning to work following mater-nity leave.
Ragene Raithatha brought her claim after leaving Addleshaws in September 2005, having worked at the firm’s Manchester office since 2001.
Raithatha is claiming up to £50,000 in damages from Addleshaws for sex discrimination, constructive dismissal, part-time discrimination and victimisation.
She alleges that, when she returned to work in early 2005 following the birth of her second child, she was told she could no longer work in construction litigation.
Instead, she was told she was being transferred to non-contentious construction work.
Raithatha alleges that the firm told her it would be impossible to work as a litigator on a part-time basis and that the firm had failed to consult her over this.
A spokesperson for Addleshaws told The Lawyer: “We’re actively contesting this claim and are confident the tribunal will find that the firm acted entirely appropriately and has no case to answer.”
