A multi-national IT company has hired a senior lawyer to help it with its strategic decision making.
Lewis Silkin lead partner Roger Alexander has been appointed to the board of the financial services division of EDS. The non-executive post will allow the marketing services specialist to continue his private practice work at the Westminster firm.
Alexander, who has already started at EDS, says he is thoroughly enjoying his new role.
EDS Financial Services, one of eight specialist operational sectors within EDS UK, provides business consultancy and process management services to financial institutions. It has recently agreed an u80 million contract to process Royal Bank of Scotland cheques.
Alexander's appointment is the first of its kind by the division. He says he was approached by the company which he had never acted for and stresses there will be no conflict of interest with private work.
"They were looking to have a senior legal figure with a range of experience able to look at the issues they are going to be facing in the development of their business," he says. "It will be interesting for me to be on the other side of the boardroom table for a change."
Divisional managing director Graham Harrison says Alexander's appointment comes at a busy time for the division, which is looking to forge similar deals to the Royal Bank of Scotland contract.
"He sits on our monthly board meetings and I value his help and guidance as a sounding board for ideas," says Harrison. "We are involved in complex deals with long contracts and to have a lawyer on side is useful."
