Move of the Week

Barclays has hired Lloyds Banking Group’s (LBG) head of legal for channels and intermediaries within the retail & wealth division Sian McIntyre. McIntyre has been in senior legal roles within the retail and wealth department since 2008, initially working as head of legal for corporate and commercial. She will join Barclays as head of legal for retail lending.


Bond Dickinson has hired intellectual property solicitor Patrick Cantrill as a partner. He joins from Walker Morris, where he built the firm’s intellectual property offering and went on to head the practice.

Seddons has appointed James Ward as a partner within its private client team. Prior to joining Seddons, Ward was a partner in the private client department of Lee Bolton Monier-Williams.

Collyer Bristow has hired two partners and a consultant. John Rochman and Jonathan Wiese join from the London office of Ashfords as a consultant and partner in the firm’s real estate team. Also joining is contentious IP specialist Tim Bamford from Withers.

Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed Geoff Peters as a partner in its energy M&A team from Freshfields. He will be based in London and has extensive knowledge of the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.

Proskauer Rose has hired Robert Gaut as partner and head of the firm’s tax practice in London. Gaut joins Proskauer from Fried Frank, where he was a partner since 2005.

Seyfarth Shaw has hired Robert Hanley to its London office as a partner in the firm’s international department. He joins from King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin’s (KWMSJB) London office.

DWF has added Lawrence Graham employment partner Helga Breen to lead the London employment team ahead of LG’s planned merger with Wragge & Co, which is expected to go ahead in May.

Debevoise & Plimpton has named former attorney general Peter Goldsmith QC as co-managing partner of Debevoise & Plimpton’s London office. Goldsmith takes on the role alongside chair of the firm’s tax practice Richard Ward. The pair are taking the reins from previous London head James Scoville, who has stepped down from the management role after eight years.  


Square One Law promoted corporate lawyer, Jemil Visram, and commercial dispute resolution lawyer, Hayley Anderson, to the position of associate.

Sintons has hired Barry Speker as a consultant focusing on areas including healthcare. Speker joins from Samuel Phillips where he was senior partner for more than 25 years.

Manchester-based firm, Express Solicitors, has added two new solicitors to its road traffic accident (RTA) team with the appointments of Anna Heeley from Savas & Savage and Daniel Jamieson from Leech & Co.

Lanyon Bowdler had hired Gráinne Walters as a partner from city law firm Speechly Bircham. Walters trained with Lanyon Bowdler before qualifying as a solicitor in 2006, shortly after which she moved to live in the capital.

Lodders Solicitors has hired corporate lawyer Mark Lewis in Stratford-upon-Avon. Lewis was formerly a long-standing partner at Leamington Spa-based Wright Hassall.

Gordon Forster joins Gillespie Macandrew

Gillespie Macandrew has appointed Gordon Foster as an associate in its private client tax team. Foster has specialised in advising clients on tax related issues since he qualified as a solicitor with MacRoberts in Edinburgh. He subsequently worked with Dundas & Wilson for seven years and most recently ran his own practice in East Lothian.


Olswang has hired Andreas Splittgerber as a technology partner in Munich. Splittgerber was formerly the head of the IT/IP practice at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel has added a pair of restructuring partners from Dentons to its Paris restructuring practice. Dentons partners Gabriel Sonier and Caroline Texier are the latest in a string of partners to join the firm.

South America

Hogan Lovells has opened the doors to its São Paulo office with the hire of Clifford Chance’s international capital markets chief Isabel Costa Carvalho.

Middle East

Bird & Bird has hired the former general counsel of Air Arabia to its Middle East arm as a partner. Anna Anatolitou will work alongside corporate partner Anders Nilsson, who recently relocated to the firm’s Dubai office from Sweden. Anatolitou is the only UAE-based partner to focus on aviation.

UAE firm, Hadef & Partners, has appointed four lawyers to the partnership in its Dubai office. Omar Al Heloo, Jonathan Brown, Caroline O’Hare and John Smy have all been made partners.


Hogan Lovells has hired Mark Parsons into its corporate/commercial team in Hong Kong as a partner with a particular focus on commercial transactions in the TMT sector. Parsons was formerly a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Asia where he led its IP/IT practice and its work in the TMT sector.

Bird & Bird has hired Sven-Michael Werner as a partner in its China corporate practice. Prior to joining Bird & Bird, Werner was a partner at Taylor Wessing in Shanghai. 

Zhong Lun has appointed Dechert’s Hong Kong managing partner Basil Hwang as a partner in its Hong Kong associate firm Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson (BPYA). Hwang was previously the managing partner of US firm Dechert’s Hong Kong office, which he helped launch in 2007.  

Nabarro has added Hogan Lovells senior associate and former GDF Suez energy counsel, Adrian Wong, as a partner in its Singapore office.

The Bar

11KBW has hired Andrea Kennedy as its director of business development. After qualifying in California, Kennedy practised as a commercial litigator in the City.  She has recently worked as a consultant to City law firms and barristers’ chambers on business development and marketing.

 XXIV Old Buildings has appointed Sue Medder as chambers’ director. She joins as a litigation partner from Withers.


Investment firm Barings Asset Management has lost its first global general counsel Sandie Okoro to HSBC Asset Management. Okoro joins HSBC Asset Management in the new role of general counsel having spent nearly seven years in the top legal role at Barings.


Ogier’s Caribbean offices have appointed Shameer Jasani as a partner in the Cayman Islands corporate and funds team, and Ray Ng as a partner and head of litigation for BVI and Asia.
