Lovells has trumped its rivals by hiking both Graduate Diploma of Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC) maintenance grants to £7,450 for students in London.
Meanwhile GDL students outside of London are also set to benefit with Lovells raising their grants to £6,450.
The decision will take effect from September 2006. Lovells told The Lawyer that it is reviewing its benefits package for LPC students.
As first revealed on 21 September on The Lawyer, Herbert Smith and Norton Rose hiked their LPC maintenance grants to £7,000. Both firms are members of the City LPC consortium.
Meanwhile, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is the only remaining member of the City LPC consortium, which has not yet announced changes to its trainee grants.
The race to hike maintenance grants was triggered by Linklaters’ announcement on 1 September that it was raising its trainee grants by 40 per cent.
