Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins is the latest US class action specialist to target the UK.

Coughlin, which has 30 UK pension funds on its books, is planning to treble its number of clients within the next 12 months.

Patrick Daniels, partner and global director of business development at the firm, said that over the last three to four years Coughlin has been trying to educate pension funds on how they can make claims in US class actions.

“Now that we’ve hit a critical mass in clients in the UK and actions we’ve taken for them have been successful, we can see that there’ll be a pace of growth leading to the number of clients hopefully trebling within a year,” explained Daniels.

Coughlin’s UK clients include Avon Pension Fund, acting for it in the class action against pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, which has been accused of misleading the market over its controversial diabetes pill Avandia. The case is still ongoing.
