Everyone’s favourite judge, the late Lord Denning, now has his own Facebook group, with more than 10,000 fans (www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2214769482).
The Lord Denning MR Appreciation Society is a heaven for the true law geek, with comments such as: “I just love his wonderful use of Equity to screw the Common Law just as he pleases.”
There are also raging discussions on promissory estoppel and on whether “the Dennster” was racist. In fact, Denning is the most popular judge on Facebook, with other online law students devoting groups to celebrate him, including: “If I do well in exams I’m getting ‘I love Lord Denning’ tattooed.”
It’s not all smooth sailing for Denning, however, with some students not taking to his unique style of reasoning. Such as the members of the ‘Lord Denning is an Arse’ group.
Legal directories are popular, but they only tell you which are the best firms, rather than the worst. So anyone looking for an antidote to the directories, along with some quasi-libellous ranting from aggrieved clients, should go to Solicitors from Hell (www.solicitors fromhell.co.uk).
In the spirit of gentlemanly conduct, the administrators of the site offer lawyers the chance to reply to the complaints. All you have to do is send an email to a hotmail address with your reply and pay the £25 admin fee. It’s a hell of a business model.
