Cable & Wireless’ global head of legal Dan Fitz is the latest victim of the ongoing management shake-up at the organisation.

Fitz will be replaced by Reuters deputy general counsel Andrew Garard, who starts on 2 July. Fitz is staying on for a short period to ensure a smooth handover and it is thought that he has yet to decide on his next career move.

The cull of the telecoms operator’s top management began in January when former British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) financial director Richard Lapthorn was appointed chairman.

Garard is the latest senior appointment to follow that of chief executive Francesco Caio and chief operating officer Kevin Lossemore.

Allen & Overy was Fitz’s main finance adviser, but will face a challenge from Slaughter and May and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Former Freshfields lawyer Garard’s key advisers at Reuters are Freshfields, Slaughter and May and Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw.

Other Cable & Wireless advisers include Richards Butler, DLA, Shaw Pittman and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
