DLA has continued its assault on Asia, taking on 12 lawyers this week from J Koh & Co, the Singapore member of its international alliance – a move that not only boosts numbers in the Singapore office, but also gives the firm a presence in Thailand.

As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com/lawyernews on 22 May, a team of seven corporate and commercial lawyers in Singapore, headed by Desmond Ong and Tandip Singh, have relinquished their local practising certificates to enable them to join the DLA partnership. The rest of the J Koh Singapore office will continue to operate as part of the international network, DLA Group.

In Thailand, DLA will take on all of J Koh’s Bangkok office, which includes partner Chulapong Yukate and four other lawyers.

Ong will also take on the role of office managing partner in South East Asia. Mike Melwood Smith, who originally launched the Singapore office in 2000, will continue to manage the day-to-day running of the office. Stewart Crowther retains his role as regional managing partner in Asia.
