Here is a perfect example of what makes a regional firm shine. Birmingham stalwart Wragge & Co has been expanding out of the regions and into the City. Last year it gained a London office through a merger with intellectual property (IP) practice Needham & Grant (The Lawyer, 6 March 2000). But this sort of expansion can only be done if the original base is up to scratch, which means judging a firm on its work, clients and, of course, its profits.
SCH is a key client, and Wragges has been advising it on the bulk of its M&A and corporate work since the mid-1990s.
