Birmingham firm The Wilkes Partnership has formed an alliance with Italian practice Studio Legale Paoletti.
Studio Paoletti has offices in Rome and Milan, and advises on Italian and international private civil law, as well as company, industrial, copyright and maritime issues, corporate M&A and international trade.
The five-partner firm was founded in 1947 by Carlo Paoletti, father of current senior partner Fabrizio Paoletti.
The Wilkes Partnership has 16 partners. Trust and tax lawyer Anna Dunford, the firm’s managing partner since 1993, said: “This alliance allows us to provide a better service to our clients and to give service here to their clients. It gives us confidence in transactions to know that we have trusted people on the ground.”
Dunford said the move did not mark a focus on gaining continental clients and that the “main thrust is to service our existing clients better”.
Dunford said the firm was “not looking to take over Europe”, but would consider further alliances in France or Spain “if the opportunity arises”.
