DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has won a competitive bid to secure the role of legal adviser to the Glasgow 2014 bid for the Commonwealth Games.
The firm will advise the Glasgow 2014 team on matters relating to broadcasting rights, sponsorship and merchandising. It will be led by partners Nick Fitzpatrick in London and John McKinlay in Glasgow.
McKinlay said he believed one of the reasons the firm was chosen by Glasgow City Council was because of its experience on international sporting events.
“We have lots of experience in this area,” McKinlay said. “We have been appointed to the panel for the Olympic Delivery Authority and are advising on the Salzburg Winter Games. I think the council also liked the fact we have a large Scottish presence that had the expertise on their doorstep.”
Glasgow now has until 2007 to prepare its bid document. The other two cities in running to host the games are Abuja in Nigeria and Halifax in Canada.
