US firm Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson is adding an extra dimension to its national securities and enforcement practice with the appointment of a former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) director.
Carmen Lawrence will join the New York Office as a partner on 1 September. Washington practice head Dixie Johnson and Lawrence will jointly head the securities team nationally. Lawrence will also head the securities regulation and enforcement practice group in New York.
The US firm has provided federal law advice to a range of clients, and its high-profile cases have included the reorganisation of Lloyd's of London and the Salomon Brothers inquiry. It recently expanded into private investment areas.
Fried Frank expects to increase its client base significantly with Lawrence's appointment. Under SEC rules, she is not allowed to appear before the commission until a year after her appointment and “will be walled-off from dealing with previous clients,” says Johnson.
Lawrence was unable to comment.
