Dechert has taken on James Waddington, who joins the firm in London as a partner.

Prior to this he was a partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. Waddington advises commercial and investment banks as well as private equity and hedge fund clients on finance and derivative transactions. Co-chair of Dechert’s global financial services group Peter Astleford said: “Jim’s expertise will further enhance our brand as a leader representing clients across the nexus where corporate, finance and fund matters meet.”
Insurance lawyer Edward Smerdon has taken over as managing partner of Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold’s London office. He replaces former managing partner Ralph Guirgis. London-based insurance attorney Mark Kendall also joins the firm as a partner. They are joined in the move by Tristan Hall, who has become a Sedgwick partner, and associates Lucy Dyson, Jason McNerlin and Duncan Strachan.
Gherson has taken on immigration consultant Gavin Jones. This follows senior practitioner Jennifer Lambe who joined the firm last month. Jones, who joins from Fragomen, where he had worked as a senior manager since 2007, has joined the corporate immigration team. Meanwhile, Lambe arrives from Mishcon de Reya, where she had been for 10 years, the last five of which she was a senior associate.
Fosters Solicitors has appointed Robert Pyke, formerly of Rogers and Norton Solicitors, as a partner in its company commercial department. His practice area focuses on all elements of commercial property transactions.
Hunton & Williams has taken on associate Cate Haywood to its global outsourcing and technology group in London. She joins from Harbottle & Lewis and focuses on all aspects of data protection and privacy law.
Maples Teesdale has hired Ed Monniot as an assistant solicitor in the property investment team. He joins from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he was an associate for three years.
Richard Evans has joined Memery Crystal as an associate in the firm’s real estate litigation team. He joins from Collins Benson Goldhill, where he was also an associate.
Construction lawyer Eleanor White has joined Morgan Cole from TLT Solicitors. Having qualified in 2008, White has specific experience of renewable energy issues and will now work alongside the 11-strong construction team at Morgan Cole, including previous TLT colleague Sean Campbell, who is now head of construction at the firm.
Pagan Osborne has appointed two trainees, Sarah Thurston and Jill Moffat. The firm has also announced that newly qualified solicitor Hanah Elfellah has been offered a job with the firm after completing her training contract. She will work in Pagen Osborne’s agricultural, estates and business team.
Clarke Willmott has taken on two solicitors, John Murphy and David Kitchen, who join the firm’s employment and property litigation teams respectively. Murphy joins as a senior associate from Cheltenham-based BPE Solicitors, while Kitchen joins as a solicitor from Wallace Robinson & Morgan Solicitors.

Ralli has strengthened its media department with the appointment of partner Keith Arrowsmith, who was previously a partner at Sprecher Grier Halberstam. He specialises in IP and media law.
SAS Daniels has promoted corporate lawyer Lorna Bennett to partner. Bennett, who is based at the firm’s Stockport office, joined SAS Daniels in 2006 from Rowlands Solicitors.
Salans has announced that real estate lawyer Pawel Debowski is set to join the firm as a partner from Clifford Chance.
Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has appointed Pedro Poveda Gómez as a new professional partner. Gomez, who has been a member of the firm’s advisory panel for the past two years, will be in charge of all environment-related issues within the area of public law.
International law firm Steptoe & Johnson has taken on IP attorney Thomas Holt as a partner in its Chicago office. He joins from Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione.
Hogan Lovells has hired Emil Arca as a partner in its New York office. Most recently,
Arca was a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf in New York. He focuses on debt capital markets and structured finance transactions in emerging markets.
Reed Smith has taken on partner Amy Koch, who joins the firm’s Washington DC office from Patton Boggs. She was formerly Patton Boggs’ senior partner responsible for strategic initiatives in the energy industry.
Nixon Peabody has taken on Peter Egan as partner in the health services practice. He joins from Garfunkel Wild PC, where he was a partner. Egan will split his time between the firm’s New York City and Long Island offices.
Morgan Lewis has announced that Bart Colli, who has served as chief legal officer at Aramark Corporation for the past decade, has joined the firm as a partner in its business and finance practice, resident in Philadelphia.
