Conflicting emotions

Excellent news reaches Tulkinghorn. Freshfields, stung by its experiences during the Marks & Spencer debacle, has decided to start taking conflicts seriously. No longer will the magic circle firm be embarrassingly caught out in the full gaze of the public for acting for a client when it shouldn’t. No longer will its partners have to hang their heads in shame as their fellow partners blame them for lost fees or, worse, costs. For Freshfields has entered the 21st century and has put out a reminder about the dreaded ‘C’ word on its emails.
Witness the example received by Tulkinghorn last week, which carried the tagline “For Conflict queries, please contact Jan Willisch (Hamburg) or Peter Jeffcote (London).” Tulkinghorn sincerely hopes these individuals will not be too swamped with enquiries.
