Harper MacLeod wins SLC contract

McGrigor Donald has been ditched by the Student Loans Company (SLC) in favour of Harper MacLeod.

The Scottish firm beat seven others to win the three-year contract, believed to include MacRoberts and Shepherd+ Wedderburn.

It will advise the SLC on IT, data protection, employment and consumer credit law, as well as on litigation.

Commenting on the firm’s success, Harper MacLeod’s managing partner Lorne Crerar said: “Harper MacLeod is seen as a breath of fresh air in the Scottish legal market and they [the SLC] were confident that we’d do a good job.”

The successful SLC tender is the latest client win for Harper MacLeod. Last year, the firm was appointed to the Scottish Executive and Interbrew legal panels.

The SLC said in a prepared statement: “The criteria used for this tendering process encompassed quality of service and cost. In the event, the Harper MacLeod tender surpassed all other competitors.”

Crerar will manage the firm’s relationship with the SLC and will work alongside Christine McConnell, the non-departmental body’s legal and compliance manager.

McGrigors declined to comment. MacRoberts and Shepherd did not return calls for comment.
