July proved to be a good month for Freshfields. The firm’s Munich office scooped the lead advisory role for Siemens on its purchase of Bayer’s diagnostics division for e4.2bn (£2.91bn).

Bayer was advised by Slaughter and May‘s German best friend, Hengeler Mueller. Jones Day advised Bayer on the US merger control aspects of the deal.

Shearman & Sterling also got in on the action by advising Siemens on the employment aspects. The US firm is also working on Siemens’ e16bn (£11.1bn) joint venture with Nokia to merge their network businesses.
