Coudert Brothers' London office has lured PricewaterhouseCoopers' (PwC) top European competition partner to launch its London competition practice.
Alastair Gorrie is director of PwC's European law department and head of its European commercial and competition law network. He joins Couderts from his base at Bogaert & Vandemeulebroeke, the big five accountants' Brussels law firm.
Gorrie says: “It is a great opportunity at Couderts. I will be developing the competition law practice there in London.”
Steven Beharrel, senior partner at Couderts' London office, says: “We are having a substantial European expansion at the moment and we have decided we want to build a UK-based competition law practice and Alastair will be joining us as a partner to build that.
“We are very aware that the new UK Competition Act is going to open up a whole new range of practice for lawyers.”
“We have used the Brussels office [until now], but the change of law here has opened up a new opportunity, and it is not just EU but also domestic UK.”
Beharrel says Gorrie will work closely with the firm's Paris and Brussels competition practices as well as with the London office's telecoms, litigation and corporate groups.
