On 14 May , The Lawyer reported that claimants’ solicitors had received around £800m from the Government for miners’ compensation scheme work. That figure referred to costs for the 30 firms that had reaped the most from the scheme. The total figure now exceeds £1bn. The article also stated that 200,000 claims are waiting to be processed. That figure should have been 185,000. It also said that £1.9bn had been paid out, but the figure was £2bn. The Department of Trade and Industry is set to pay another £400m, not £750m as stated.
