Orrick saves costs with support staff move

A global operations centre with 80 staff will deal with the firm's network operations, a help desk, software applications support and email administration.
The move, which is taking the functions out of the firm's San Francisco and New York offices, is expected to save the firm as much as $1m (£682,540m) per year.
The centre will open in May next year, located 45 miles south of Pittsburgh. The firm will give severance packages to staff who do not want to relocate and cannot be placed in other jobs in the firm.
The location was chosen after a year-long search with the help of consultants Deloitte & Touche Fantus Consulting, and was picked because of the talent pool, housing availability, infrastructure, transport and economic conditions.
Other finance functions that will be housed in the new office include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing and collections.
