CLIFFORD Chance has launched a recruitment drive in a search for new people to boost numbers in its Moscow office.
The office, which opened three years ago, includes partner William Knowles and 11 other lawyers plus researchers, paralegals and support staff.
The firm has placed no limit on the number of new solicitors it is prepared to take on, but London-based partner Tony Williams says because applicants are required to be fluent in Russian as well as having at least two years' post-qualification experience, it is unlikely “more than half a dozen” candidates will be called in for interviews.
“To be honest, one doesn't expect to be flooded out with applications,” says Williams.
“There is a small market of people who have the right experience, the right ability and the right language skills.”
Williams, the UK partner in charge of Moscow, declines to put a price tag on the posts, but says they are “senior, well-paid jobs” and the packages will “reflect the difficulties of living in Moscow”.
He says the Moscow office will relocate to new premises in January and the move has prompted the hiring drive.
