corporate partner Mark Rawlinson is to succeed Tim Jones as the firm’s London corporate head, taking up the new post on 1 April.
As reported in The Lawyer (3 December 2007) Jones is handing over departmental managing partner duties after taking on the role of London office head.
Rawlinson, who has been a partner at Freshfields for 17 years, is putting a business management committee in place to help him run the practice.
“I want to create a wider leadership group with more partners having a sense of responsibility for driving our practice forward,” he said. “This will also help me lead from the front while continuing my involvement with clients and in deals, rather than being stuck behind a desk worrying about budgets.”
The committee will see Edward Braham take responsibility for developing the corporate business plan and strategy while Martin Taylor will help oversee the department’s financial performance and its business and support services. Julian Long is to take responsibility for HR issues with associate Richard Thexton taking on the role of operations officer.
Speaking about Rawlinson’s appointment Jones said: “Mark is ideally suited to this role thanks to his formidable track record in the transactional marketplace, a strong client focus and significant management experience. Matching individual strengths to interests, he will be structuring the role in a new way that spreads leadership and administrative responsibilities across a broader group. This will allow Mark to retain a strong focus on transactions.”
Rawlinson will retain responsibility for trainee recruitment at the firm and will also continue doing fee earning work.
