Media partners Jonathan Berger and Peter Armstrong, who are expected to join Salans in April, are half of the four-strong team that joined from Mishcon de Reya in 1995. Two other members of the group, corporate partners Graham Stedman and Paul Salmon, announced their intention to join Salans in December.
Ironically, the team joined Theodores following a disagreement with Mishcons’ management. When the team joined from Mishcons, it negotiated a four-year deal with Theodores’ management in which they were salaried partners. This contract is due to be up at the end of April.
It is understood that all four partners talked to Theodores’ management about renewing the contracts, but an agreement on terms could not be reached.
The latest departures mean that Salans will take on six Theodores partners, with employment partners Peter Cooke and Jane Bullen also set to join. Around six other fee-earners are also likely to jump ship, although the final figure has still to be confirmed. Jonathan Blair, a fifth member of the Mishcons team, will remain at Theodores.
The hire is Salans’ first foray into media and entertainment, which will sit alongside the communications and IT teams. Senior partner Paddy Grafton Green said the firm would be looking to rehire in that area.
The partners involved declined to comment.
