Dublin firm Matheson Ormsby Prentice is moving high-profile M&A partner Andrew Doyle to its London office in a strategic bid to bolster its UK presence.

Once Doyle relocates, Mathesons will have the largest London office of any Dublin firm. As a senior M&A partner with major international clients, Doyle will also add substantial weight to the London team, for which he will be the third partner.

However, Mathesons’ strategy is not without risk. While Doyle’s relocation is intended to bolster the firm’s push on City firm referral work, Mathesons is committing a partner with key client relationships to work outside his jurisdiction. To mitigate this, Doyle will retain all of his international M&A, private equity and Irish foreign direct investment clients. He will also handle some client work for domestic Irish companies from London, returning to Dublin on an ad hoc basis.

Of Dublin’s other top firms, A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox and McCann Fitzgerald all have London offices. Arthur Cox and McCanns have committed just one partner each to London, while Goodbodys has two.

Doyle said: “Our decision to bolster our presence in London demonstrates the importance we attach to our M&A practice. Our ability to do transactions from London will be significantly augmented.”
