Linklaters salaried partner Graeme Maguire will boost the firm’s IT group, while Simmons’ former head of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology market sector Gerry Kamstra is a notable addition to Bird & Bird’s leading patent practice.
DLA’s expansionist efforts continue with Bird & Bird partner Mark O’Conor joining the firm’s IT group when he finishes his paternity leave. O’Conor provides a mix of public and private sector experience.
The hire of magic circle partner Maguire will raise eyebrows as Bird & Bird confirms its aggressive expansion plans at a time when Linklaters is also looking to grow its IT and communications group.
Kamstra is Bird & Bird’s second recent hire from Simmons, following the recruitment of telecoms partner Rhys Williams.
Simmons’ senior partner Janet Gaymer said that Kamstra’s departure was not linked to the firm’s recent de-equitisation programme, adding that the firm was very committed to its IP practice.
Linklaters was unavailable for comment.
