36 Bedford Row and 2 Temple Gardens lose leading clerks

Leading sets 36 Bedford Row and 2 Temple Gardens have parted company with leading members of their clerking teams.

The three departing clerks are victims of the wave of rationalisation and restructuring of clerking and administrative functions that is sweeping through the bar.

Deputy senior clerk at 2 Temple Gardens, Tom Grove, who has been with the set for nine years, is no longer working there.

Chambers director at 2 Temple Gardens, Elizabeth Rantzen refuses to comment on his departure, but The Lawyer understands the parties are currently in confidential negotiations. It is believed that the chambers, headed by Dermod O'Brien QC, is undergoing a restructuring of its clerking operations.

Meanwhile, senior clerk at 36 Bedford Row, Martin Poulter, is leaving to take up a similar position at 2 Gray's Inn Square.

Poulter will start his new job in March. He refuses to comment on his reasons for moving but says it is a new opportunity.

36 Bedford Row, where newly appointed Michael Pert QC is head of chambers, is also losing silks' clerk Graeme Logan, who is due for retirement in the summer.

The set is now advertising for one senior clerk to fill the two vacancies.
