Morgan Cole insurance head Robin Havard will become the troubled firm's next chairman

As revealed on www.thelawyer.com/ lawyernews last week, Havard beat corporate lawyer Graeme Guthrie and litigator Allan Wilson to the job.

Sources close to the firm said that Havard is likely to be a stronger chairman than incumbent John Cole, who will return to fee earning from April. “Robin is a healer and that firm needs a lot of healing,” said one source.

More than 40 partners have left the firm since the 1998 merger of Cole & Cole and Morgan Bruce. With last year's average profits per partner at £135,000, Havard will also need to address the issue of low profitability.

Last year, Havard stepped into the shoes of disgraced insurance head Iain Tenquist.
