Olswang‘s US alliance partner Greenberg Traurig is the latest firm to confirm that it is actively looking at launching a presence in China.

The firm is in the process of preparing its application to the Chinese authorities for a licence to practise in the country. However, the Greenberg partner responsible for international strategy, Richard Rosenbaum, said the firm has yet to decide where the office will be, or who would head it.

“There’s very little doubt that some time in the next 12 months we’ll have some presence in China,” said Rosenbaum. “We’re focused on it now.”

Greenberg already has a China practice and a number of informal alliances with Chinese firms.

It hopes its new outpost will increase its market share advising Chinese companies on US and international matters across a range of sectors, including media and entertainment, real estate and finance.
