Bird & Bird has appointed Richard Lucas as a partner in the commercial group. He joins the London office from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he headed the project finance team.
Davenport Lyons has hired Andrew Li, who joins the property department as a partner from Eversheds, where he was also a partner. Li’s key clients are in the healthcare, energy, investment and development sectors.
Keoghs has appointed Martin McAleer as a partner in its technical claims services division. He previously worked at the firm for more than 10 years in two separate stints.
Duane Morris has hired Jonathan Armstrong as a partner in the corporate practice. He joins the firm’s London office from Eversheds, where he was a partner.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed finance partner Simon Johnson as trainee recruitment partner to head the firm’s graduate recruitment activities in the UK. He takes over from Mark Rawlinson, who is head of Freshfields’ UK corporate practice. In addition, Deborah Dalgleish, currently head of UK trainee recruitment and head of diversity and inclusion, has moved into working full-time as head of diversity and inclusion. Her role as head of UK trainee recruitment has been taken on by trainee recruitment manager Elizabeth Cope.
ASB Law has promoted Jeremy Ferris to partner in its commercial litigation team. The firm has also promoted two solicitors, Daniel James and Debbie Venn, to associate. Both joined the firm as trainees.
Charles Clarke has joined Gregg Latchams’ commercial property department as an assistant solicitor from Burges Salmon.
Southampton-based Eric Robinson Solicitors has promoted two of its solicitors to associate. Paul Sams and Nigel Riches work in the firm’s property and wills and probate teams respectively.
Fairfax Solicitors has strengthened its board of directors with the appointment of chairman Jonathan Holt. Former head of commercial and member of the executive board at Eversheds, Holt takes on the role at the new Leeds-based firm, which was created last month following a management buyout of Eversheds’ unsecured recoveries business. Holt said: “Despite the large number of existing debt collection agencies, there are very few law firms exclusively focusing on this specialist arena.
Given the experience of the team and its commitment to quality and integrity, this gives us a great opportunity to grow our business.”
Capsticks has hired three new lawyers to join its corporate and commercial team in Birmingham. The team will be headed by corporate partner Mike Clifford, who joins after 14 years at Hammonds, where he was also a partner. He will be supported by Tracy Giles, who joins as a senior lawyer and procurement specialist from Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council, and Alex Birch, who joins as a corporate lawyer from Nabarro.
Harper Macleod has announced the promotions of three new associates in its litigation and banking departments. Carolyn Morgan works in the firm’s litigation department handling a broad range of civil and commercial disputes. Jon McGee joined the firm in 2006 and is based in the banking department. Also promoted to associate status in the banking department is Chiara McLean, who joined Harper Macleod as a trainee solicitor in 2004.
Darwin Gray has appointed a new partner, Chris Crane, to head its company commercial team. He joins the Cardiff-based firm from RDP Solicitors in Newport, where he was a partner and head of the company/commercial team.
Baker & McKenzie has enhanced its IT and communications practice with the hire of Laurent Szuskin as a partner in its Paris office. Szuskin joins from Latham & Watkins, where he was a partner and co-head of the information and communication technologies practice.
Davis Polk & Wardwell corporate partner Andrés Gil has relocated from New York to Paris. While in New York Gil headed the corporate practice. He was also formerly a member of the firm’s management committee, headed the Latin America practice and founded the Madrid office.
Magisters has announced the appointment of Clemens Schlotter from Beiten Burkhardt as a partner and head of its German desk in Moscow. The desk will focus on providing legal advice to companies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland with interests in Russia and the CIS. Before joining Magisters Schlotter specialised in M&A and corporate as a partner with Beiten Burkhardt in Moscow.
Katten Muchin Rosenman has announced the addition of William Regan as a New
York-based partner in its litigation and dispute resolution practice. He was previously an associate in the litigation department of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s New York office.
Ferrere has hired Martin Litwak as head of investment funds and wealth management. He joins from Ogier, where he co-headed the firm’s Latin American practice and managed the Montevideo office.
White & Case has hired Emily Low to join its Singapore office as counsel in the investment funds practice group. She joins the firm from UBS, where she was a director.
Allen & Overy has hired Simon Clarke as a litigation and arbitration partner. He has joined the firm from Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Hong Kong, where he has been a partner since 2004.
