LAWYERS from around the UK have launched an organisation to tackle the legal challenges which surround the millennium bug, known as Y2K.
Five UK firms – London's Withers, Edinburgh's Bird Semple, Merseyside's Ross & Co, Bournemouth's Lester Aldridge and Newcastle's Robert Muckle – have joined Y2K specialist John Melville-Williams QC to launch the Y2K Lawyers Association.
The association has set up a web site – www.y2klaw.org – which includes a bulletin board to allow visitors to the site to contribute their views. Its membership is open to solicitors, barristers, advocates and lawyers from outside the UK.
Group chief executive Graham Ross said the association aimed "to foster innovative legal solutions to the problem of the bug, promote co-operation and share legal knowledge".
