Carlsberg issues oil leak writ

The case of a driver who drove away forgetting to take the fuel pump nozzle out of his vehicle after filling it up – setting off a trail of disaster costing more than u1.8m – is heading for the High Court. After the incident, the driver's employer, Carlsberg, brought in a firm called Gilbarco to repair the damage. However, in a writ now issued against Gilbarco, Carlsberg accuses the firm of negligence, claiming that when the pump was reconnected, an estimated 350,000 gallons of diesel leaked out and contaminated sub-surface soil and ground water, with the result that a massive clean-up operation was needed. Carlsberg is represented by Davies Arnold Cooper.
