The total number of jobs lost or under threat in the UK legal market now stands at 2,751 after a number of firms completed redundancy consultations.

Blake Lapthorn, Denton Wilde Sapte, Mayer Brown, Nabarro, Speechly Bircham and TLT Solicitors have all reached the end of their consultation periods.

Dentons has laid off 76 people across its London and Milton Keynes offices, with a total of 37 fee-earners losing their jobs.

Chief executive Howard Morris said the firm has no plans for any further rounds of job cuts.

“I would hope that this would be the end,” he said. “It would be irresponsible to say that we won’t have to conduct another consultation, but we’ve got a long way to go before the economy returns to what people would consider normal.”

Blake Lapthorn has laid off 20 people at the end of its second redundancy
consultation.

The firm, which made 33 people redundant at the end of last year, entered into talks with a further 30 people in January.

HR and administration director Alistair Gray said Blake Lapthorn had managed to reduce the number of layoffs in the second round thanks
to, among other things, the use of secondments.

Nabarro has confirmed that it is laying off a total of 22 people across its London and Sheffield offices, with 10 associates in London and three in Sheffield being affected, as well as six support staff in London and three in Sheffield.

At Mayer Brown, nine London lawyers have been laid off after the firm consulted with a total of 11. Speechly Bircham confirmed that it has laid off all eight lawyers it was consulting with, while southwest firm TLT Solicitors has laid off 15 members of staff after talking with up to 20.
