Trowers & Hamlins has launched a redundancy consultation with fee earners in its UK-based real estate team.

The firm is looking to lay off four fee-earners who focus on the plot sales market, with three in Manchester and one in Exeter set to lose their jobs. According to a firm spokesperson, those working on plot sales in the firm’s larger London office are unaffected by the consultation.

Trowers’ Manchester-based plot sales team numbers ten in total, while there are five in the Exeter team. In total the firm has are over 40 fee earners in Manchester and 20 in Exeter. At the end of the last financial year Trowers had 380 fee-earners globally.

The UK redundancy review comes after Trowers became the first UK firm to make job cuts in the Middle East. Seven people have lost their jobs across the firm’s Dubai, Muscat and Riyadh offices, with the bulk of the cuts affecting the firm’s project finance practice (23 February).

Until now Trowers had avoided making redundancies by retraining and redeploying staff. Five solicitors kept their jobs last autumn by moving from quieter areas such as commercial property to planning, litigation, housing projects and environmental work (10 November).
