What on earth was going on this week over at Serle Court? Tulkinghorn wondered as his calls and emails met a stony and repeated silence.
After a worried Daniel Lightman explained to one of The Lawyer’s scribes that he was “trying to get a mouse to work”, a curious Tulkinghorn made further enquiries. It transpires that the poor dears had quite literally been in the dark for three days – a state of affairs not unknown to the odd lawyer or two.
A power cut on Monday (16 February) – which for a time affected all of Chancery Lane and the surrounding area – was only resolved at Serle Court by the end of Wednesday evening.
“We’ve been without electricity, power and water for three days,” moaned the tragic Lightman. Unfortunate name that, under the circumstances.
