North West firm DWF has hired the entire family practice team from Cobbetts.
Partners David Pickering, James Maguire and Lesley Smythe, joined by eight associates, will officially start working at DWF on 14 May.
The move follows DWF’s merger with Ricksons in January this year and is the latest in a string of acquisitions.
DWF poached a a litigation team from Brabners Chaffe Street in February and a real estate team from Hammonds in March.
DWF managing partner Andrew Leaitherland said: “Following DWF’s recent merger with Ricksons, we are focusing on our plans for continued growth and lateral hires in key premium areas such as family are an important part of our strategy.”
The team move represents a strategic exit from family law by Cobbetts and comes just weeks before it opens its corporate finance practice in London, first revealed by The Lawyer in February.
Cobbetts managing partner Michael Shaw commented: “The [family] team is very strong and has been very successful. It was a decision that was discussed between us all and we all feel that the team is more aligned with DWF.”
