Ward Hadaway to cut 30 jobs, delay training contracts” />North East firm Ward Hadaway will make up to 30 job redundancies, and has deferred the training contracts of two of its 12 trainees by a year.
It is understood that the majority of job cuts are to be made to non-fee earning staff in the firm’s Newcastle office.
Several fee-earners and solicitors in the real estate department are also likely to be affected. The redundancy consultation period is understood to be almost complete.
Two out of 12 of Ward Hadaway’s September 2008 trainee intake have also volunteered to defer their training contract until September 2009, explained a spokesman, but the firm refused to confirm whether deferred trainees would be offered financial incentives.
Ward Hadaway employs total staff of 392, of whom 216 are fee-earners and 143 are qualified lawyers.
Real estate made up almost a third of the firm’s £28.4m turnover in 2007-08.
A statement by Ward Hadaway managing partner Jamie Martin read: “I can confirm that we are currently engaged in a redundancy consultation process with our staff. We expect no more than 30 job losses, but since the consultation process has not been completed it would be inappropriate for the firm to comment further.”
