Walkers launches in HK

Cayman Islands law firm Walkers has launched an office in Hong Kong to service its Far Eastern clients on Cayman and British Virgin Islands (BVI) law.
As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com on 17 September, the office will advise on capital markets and structured finance, asset finance, investment funds, insolvency and corporate recovery.
The new base, which opened on 15 September, will enable Walkers to provide direct advice to its clients. Up to now it has had to struggle with the time differences between its other offices and Hong Kong. Walkers opened offices in the BVI and Tokyo last year, and has other offices in the Caymans and London.
The Hong Kong office is headed by partner Vicki Hazelden and senior assistant Nick Rogers. Hazeldon told The Lawyer: “There’s no doubt that we can offer an even better service by being in Hong Kong and being able to see clients face to face. We can offer Cayman and BVI legal advice during Asian office hours, combined with the continuing facility for overnight document turnaround from our offices in the Caymans, BVI and London.”
The firm hopes to expand the Hong Kong office to bring its total number of lawyers in the short term to nine.
