The litigation team that recently left Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw for US giant Hunton & Williams has scored a key victory in a Kenyan court.
Partners Marie Kidwell and John Miles, who joined Mayer Brown last year, have successfully judicially reviewed a decision by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to impose concessionary tariff rates on their clients’ rival cargo-handling facilities.
With assistant Llyr Rowlands, the partners will now be seeking to reverse the new tariff rates, which favour the rivals of their client Grain Bulk Handlers Limited (GBHL). Some $35m (£21.7m) has been invested in GBHL by four companies, which represents one of the largest private investments in sub-Saharan Africa.
