Norton Rose has raided US firm Chadbourne & Parke for its only English-qualified partner in Moscow, Chris Owen.

Owen, a corporate finance partner who has been advising in the former Soviet Union for more than a decade, will continue to be based in Moscow.

Norton Rose’s latest hire continues the firm’s strategy of growing its corporate finance practice in Russia in alignment with the overall business.

One Chadbourne insider said that Owen’s departure was a slight blow to the firm due to the difficulty in hiring high-quality English-qualified lawyers who are happy to work out of Russia on a permanent basis.

The news follows the appointment of Baker Botts corporate finance partner Andrei Yakovlev to Norton Rose’s London office (The Lawyer, 17 September).

Chadbourne declined to comment.
