Baker & McKenzie has hired a raft of IP lawyers in Asia to recover from last month’s raid by Jones Day, opening up a new front in the war for IP talent.

Senior Baker & McKenzie corporate partner Winston Zee will move over to the IP group to oversee its revival, after three IP partners and one of counsel left the firm for Jones Day’s Hong Kong office in September.

Along with Zee, the IP group will welcome five new associates. Joining the Hong Kong office are Maria Smith, Angeline Lee, Sian Bowen, Annie Tsoi and Gloria Poon.

Tsoi was an associate at Vivien Chan & Co and Sian Bowen joins Baker & McKenzie from Shell’s in-house department.

In Shanghai, Clement Ngai joins from software company Autodesk, where he headed up the anti-piracy effort.
