Berrymans Lace Mawer suffers blow as equity partner leaves

BERRYMANS Lace Mawer has lost its head of construction, equity partner Diana Holtham.

Holtham resigned last month after 20 years at Berrymans, which ranks in the top 20 London construction firms. She formally leaves on 1 April. She is quitting the firm for personal reasons.

Berrymans' national senior partner Paul Taylor will take over Holtham's role temporarily, but will also retain his existing role.

Holtham who has been a partner at Berrymans for 14 years says: “I want a long holiday and may work for a charity after a year or six months, but I don't want to rush into anything. I would be happy to work in a smaller environment.”

She adds she does not want to work in construction law or return to private practice.

Holtham adds: “I have been planning this for three years. I went in to law to help the poor and underprivileged but have worked for insurance companies.”

Taylor says: “I have worked with Diana for 20 years and this is a sad day for me as I am losing a good friend.”

However, he claims Berryman's seven-partner construction department will still be “strong”. The department consists of five partners in London and two in Leeds, as well as partners in Southampton and the North West.
