Birmingham’s No5 Chambers has become one of only a handful of sets with an international presence after forging an alliance with Spain’s GV&A (Gomez Villares and Alvarez).
No5, which opened a London office in 2002, is expecting to refer property, tax and probate cases with a Spanish element to its new alliance partner.
GV&A, the product of a 1999 merger between two Malaga firms Gomez Villares and Alvarez Fernandez, already handles work for the UK expatriate population.
According to No 5 Chambers, the recent surge in UK nationals purchasing property in Spain has caused a rise in cross-border legal work in the region.
Few chambers have struck out overseas, whether through
alliances or setting up their own offices.
7 Bedford Row recently formed an alliance with Jersey-based law firm and consultancy BakerPlatt Group.
While Roger Henderson QC’s 2 Harcourt Buildings has an association with European law firm Stanbrook & Hooper in Brussels, which operates under the banner of Stanbrook & Henderson.
