Experts have warned that one-third of office staff admit to gambling online during working hours costing businesses £300m in lost productivity. Exclusive research produced by Tulkinghorn shows that lawyers are among the worst affected.
The shocking extent of this addiction was unveiled last week when it transpired that online gambling is dominating many of their waking hours, as lawyers make desperate attempts to augment their tiny pay packets.
A Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer lawyer, who would only be known as Tim J, said: “It started off being recreational. I just hung around shooting the breeze with PartyGaming and 888 occasionally. And then, before I knew it, I was sucked into the hard stuff doing these IPOs.
“I want to stop it but I’ve got a billable hours habit to feed. And now the US regulators took away my supply, so I’m reduced to hanging around AIM.” BLP declined to comment.
