Pinsent Masons has completed its first piece of work for new client Alliance & Leicester after winning a pitch to advise on a telecoms outsourcing deal for the group with BT.
The firm came through a beauty parade, fending off other firms on Alliance’s panel.
Head of group legal services Carolyn Hay said Pinsents’ knowledge of consultants TPI Inc’s outsourcing methodology tipped the balance in its favour.
“We looked at the experience of the firms asked to participate and they were all good,” said Hay. “The unique selling point for Pinsents was the fact they were familiar with TPI methodology.”
Pinsents outsourcing partner Angela Cha led the team. The firm is now in a position to consolidate its relationship with the bank, with the prospect of winning more work in different practice areas.
Allen & Overy is the main relationship firm for the banking group.
BT handled most of the transaction in-house, instructing Addleshaw Goddard on employment matters. Cha had a team of four associates comprising Nigel Wilson, Michael Harvey, Sanjay Verma and Tom Potbury.
As part of the deal, BT will install a new communications infrastructure, combining Alliance’s call centre telephony, ATM network and telephone services onto a single network.
