Middle East

The Middle East is now one of the hottest jurisdictions in the legal market, literally and metaphorically. Firms are flooding the Gulf region off the back of the booming energy and projects sectors.

A wave of firms has launched in Dubai in a bid to cash in on the boom. Ashurst, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Simmons & Simmons, as well as US firms Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Baker Botts, have opened offices. Meanwhile, the ever-expanding DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has raided Denton Wilde Sapte’s longstanding local presence with the aim of launching in Dubai in the New Year.

The Middle East special report examines the drivers behind this unparalleled growth, including the growing competition between the Gulf states to develop the region’s predominant regional financial hub.

Elsewhere, the booming power generation sector is also driving development, as is the emerging rail transport sector, with the Dubai Light Rail Project top of the list.
